Research to revive tourism industry soon

ISLAMABAD - The Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with Planning and Development Division is going to launch two extensive studies on how to revive backsliding tourism industry of the country. The Tourism Ministry is all set to conduct two studies on poverty elevation and environmental conservation through eco tourism in costal areas of Pakistan and potential and development of desert tourism in Thar (Sindh) and Cholistan (Punjab). An Official source told TheNation here on Thursday that the Ministry of Tourism has made a request to the Planning and Development Division for conducing six researches, which also includes international research on effect of climate change on Pakistan Tourism Industry. He said that the authority has approved two studies out of total, which would be conducted soon on national level. About international research official, he described that the international research on effect of climate change on Pakistan Tourism Industry has not been approved yet, as officials of Pakistan and Development Division were of the view that on first phase, they would hold study on effect of climate change on agriculture due to its significance, and after that research on effect of climate change on tourism sector would be properly carried out. "The Planning and Development Division will hire its consultant shortly for caring out these studies," he noted. While sharing his views with TheNation, Secretary Tourism Qaiser Shahzad informed, "Presently two studies on Poverty elevation and environment conservation through eco tourism in costal areas of Pakistan and potential and development of desert tourism in Thar (Sindh) of Cholistan (Punjab) has been approved by the Planning and Development Division. He further maintained that these researches would be carried out shortly with the help of the Planning and Development Division, and would be completed with one year. "These two studies would move us in new directions for commencing new project for promoting tourism," he added. He said that studies on tourism would not only help in making decisions regarding future course of tourism, but it would also play an important role in resolving problems and challenges faced by the tourism industry," he has opined. He informed that we are trying our best to initiate projects for promotion of tourism sector, which would be only possible after getting comprehensive data.
