80 women to display artwork





ISLAMABAD – The Gender and Child cell of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will participate in a five-day exhibition being held to commemorate International Women Day.
According to an official, the event, “Connecting Girls, Inspiring Future and Women at Work” exhibition will be held from 8 to 12 March, at the Lok Virsa, Shakarparian.
The event will help highlight the efforts and achievements in disasters on livelihood, health, and media reporting in the gender perspective.
NDMA intends to showcase the role and achievements of international institutions, civil society, academia and private sector during the past disasters and preparedness to cope with the future disasters in the context of gender health, livelihood and media reporting.
The issues in cross cutting spectrum of disaster response, disaster risk reduction, preparation, prevention, provision and protection and the specific needs of young girls and the future mothers will be protected. The event will enable NDMA’s partners to highlight and project their role and achievements during the past disasters and future preparedness in the context of health, livelihood and media reporting and to mainstream gender/women issues action and Disaster Risk management. The concluding ceremony and the prize distribution will be held on Monday March 12, at 11:00 a.m.
Meanwhile, a total of 80 women artists from across the country will display their art works in a national exhibition here on March 8 to mark International Women’s Day at National Art Gallery.
Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) and the Ministry of National Heritage and Integration have arranged the show in which the women artists will also pay tribute to the Legend and Pioneer of Modern Art, Zubaida Agha.
The exhibition has been planned aiming at showcasing the skills of women artists in various forms of visual art and also acknowledge their services in the field of fine arts.
The participating artists including Hajra Mansoor, Anjum Ayub, Humaira Malik, Nigar Nazar, Mehr Afroz, Mubeena Zuberi, Musarrat Mirza, Rabia Zuberi, Saleema Hashmi and Naheeda Raza will bring their paintings in various mediums featuring women issues, challenges faced by women in the society. The show entitled “Diversity and Creativity” will continue till two months.
Meanwhile, Nomad Art Gallery in collaboration with UN Women is organising a seminar on March 7 entitled, “Women, Devolution and Laws”. Eminent Poet and Activist Kishwar Nahid and other leading women speakers will address various sessions of the seminar. The seminar will be followed by a relevant art show of women artists entitled “Women Demanding Peace.”
“International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate our achievements and address concerns and responsibilities to move forward with empowerment of girls, women and all members of the communities at the grassroots and across the strata in Pakistan,” said Nageen Hyat, Director Nomad, while talking to the agency.
