Karachi Blues set sight at victory Karachi Blues got into winning position against Multan in the Quaid-e-Azam trophy match despite second innings collapse on the penultimate day of the four-day contest here Thursday at the National stadium. The home team collapsed for 167 in second innings after Multan left arm pacer Rizwan Haider captured five for 74 and left arm spinner Zulfiqar Baber took four for 43. But despite second innings collapsed the home team retaliated by capturing three Multan second inning wickets for 99 leaving the visitors of a difficult task to save the contest. Multan still 217 runs in arrears face an uphill task to avoid defeat which stares in their face. Karachi Blues, which had scored 377 in the first knock, took control of the match when they disposed off Multan for 229 in first innings taking commanding 148 runs lead which was extended to 315. After losing three top order batsmen, it would be a miracle if Multan could avoid defeat on the final day. They have seven wickets, mostly tail enders in hand, for full-day play remaining in the match. Multan resumed its first innings at overnight total of 220 for eight and its innings folded by adding just nine more runs. Thus conceding 148 runs lead to the home team. The visitors fought back courageously after a poor batting performance when they restricted the host team second innings to a low score. But that advantage was squandered when they lost three second innings wickets for just 99 runs. Only three Karachi batsmen made good contribution in second innings. Opener Shahzaib Hasan made 42,Asad Shafiq scored 32 and Tanveer Ahmed added 33. Karachi Blues skipper Muhammad Sami started Multan collapse by taking the wicket of opener Ghulam Farid who got four runs. Opener Fayyaz ul Hasan was run out for 13 and Gulraiz Sadaf promoted in batting order left without scoring caught by Sami off Khalid Mahmood. Ramiz Alam is still at the crease undefeated 54 and hold the key to Multan efforts in second innings. Friday is the last day of the match.
