Report on relief efforts to IDPs presented to PM

ISLAMABAD - A detailed report regarding the internally displaced persons of North Waziristan Agency and performance of all the organisations providing relief to the IDPs was presented to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif here on Sunday.
The report stated that each registered IDP family would be facilitated by proving compensation amount through mobile SIM from July 8 (tomorrow). This step has been taken to ensure quick relief to the IDPs besides bringing more transparency in distribution of money. The beneficiaries would collect their money from mobile franchises, retailers and banks.
About 572,529 people of 44,633 families have been registered so far as the IDPs due to the Operation Zarb-e-Azb which started on June 15.
The PM was updated that an amount of Rs329.568 million has been distributed among 27,664 families as the financial support. Similarly, 4,500 tons of relief goods have been distributed among 31,000 registered families by the federal government with the assistance of Pakistan Army and the World Food Program (WFP). About 5,000 food packages, weighing 110-kg each, are being distributed every day through 11 food distribution points. Non-food items have also been distributed among 31,000 IDPs families.
Round the clock provision of electricity in the IDPs’ camps has been ensured as well as temporary mosques have been built to facilitate the families living in the camps. Similarly, medical facilities including doctors and medicines, especially treatment of sun-stroke, cramps in legs and polio vaccination, have been made available for them. Steady supply of clean drinking water has also been ensured. Pakistan Army has also established country-wide 33 points to collect donation from the public.
The Finance Ministry has released Rs1.5 billion so far for providing relief to the IDPs. The Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet has recently approved 60,000 tons of wheat costing Rs2.8 billion to be distributed among the IDPs.
Rescue 1122 has provided three state-of-the-art ambulances along with necessary staff for assistance of the displaced persons. Several 15 mobile veterinary clinics have been established in Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Karak and Tank in which more than 20,000 animals of the IDPs have been treated while more than 42,000 animals have so far been vaccinated.
The UAE government released an assistance of $20.5 million for the IDPs on humanitarian grounds, while the US extended an assistance of $31 million.
