SC questions restoration of Local Govt Ordinance 1979

The Supreme Court on Thursday issued notice to Attorney General Irfan Qadir during the hearing of an application against the Sindh Local Government Act.
The AG was issued notice to argue over the article 140-A and 264 as an SC bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took up the application for hearing.
The CJ said that Local Government Ordinance 1979 had been annulled and asked how it could be restored.
He observed that only a law could be restored in the absence of new legislation. The chief justice said the restoration of the law raised legal questions which were arguable.
The hearing was adjourned for three weeks.
