RAWALPINDI - District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Khalid Randhawa has said that some 6,55,700 children of fewer than five years of age would be administered polio drops in the district during a campaign from 12 to 16 January 2009. He informed that some 1287 polio teams had been constituted besides setting up 254 polio centres in hospitals and dispensaries of the district. He said that 229 area heads and 52 zonal supervisors had also been appointed to accomplish the task of polio administration of targeted children of their respective region effectively. He said this while addressing a meeting held here on Wednesday. Executive District Officer Revenue (EDO-R) Muhammad Asif Qureshi presided over the meeting and also reviewed the arrangements regarding polio campaign whereas officer of Health department and reps of various NGOs were present on this occasion. DHO Dr Khalid Randhawa said that Health department with the coordination of volunteers had completed all necessary arrangements to administer Polio drops to the children less than five years. He informed that Deputy District Health Officers had been entrusted responsibilities to look after the polio administration of all tehsils of Rawalpindi district. He said that control rooms had also been set up for efficient monitoring of polio campaign and immediate steps would be adopted for prompt delivery of polio vaccine in the areas in case of any demand. EDO-R Asif Qureshi, who was presiding the meeting on behalf of DCO Rawalpindi Imdad Ullah Bosal, stated all the focal points and public gathering places would be covered during the Polio admin campaign and special teams at be deputed at Bus Stands, Railways, Air Ports other similar points to facilitate the children. He said teams should also complete the targets of their respective localities by ensuring polio vaccination to each and every listed child.
