The Supreme Court on Thursday while hearing the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) implementation case directed Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani to write a letter to Swiss authorities without seeking advice. Attorney General of Pakistan Maulvi Anwarul Haq was directed to convey the directives of the Supreme Court to the premier "immediately". The prime minister has been directed to submit a reply in the court by March 21, 2012, after writing the letter. The SC ordered that PM should submit the written reply till March 19 and if the reply was not submitted, then the premier will have to appear before the court on March 21. A seven-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk is hearing the case. Prime Minister Gilani was served a contempt notice in the NRO implementation case when the government did not follow the court's orders of writing a letter to the Swiss authorities to reopen graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari. Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq asked Secretary Cabinet Division Nargis Sethi what was her responsibility regarding the summary sent to the prime minister. Nargis Sethi said she was the Principal Secretary of PM from December 15, 2008 till January 17, 2011. She said the responsibility of Principal Secretary is to assist PM to perform tasks related to the public affairs. She said two summaries were presented to the prime minister by the Ministry of Law. She said the first summary was rejected by the premier saying it was not according to the rules. However, she said, the premier acted upon the second summary.
