PML-N moves to vitiate any anti-govt alliance

ISLAMABAD - Following the PML-N government's decision to contact main political parties to have their input on major issues and to forestall any move aimed at derailing the political setup, the ruling party's three-member committee has recently held a meeting with newly appointed Jamaat-I-Islami Amir Sirajul Haq.
The government committee comprises Ahsan Iqbal, Kh. Saad Rafique and Irfan Siddiqui.
During the meeting held at the residence of JI central leader Mian Aslam in Islamabad, they discussed with Siraj various issues and the areas where both parties could work together, sources told The Nation Sunday.
The input of Jamaat-I-Islami on the ongoing negotiations with militants in Tribal Areas also came under discussion and the government team had taken the input of JI Amir on the fresh initiative of bringing in tribal elders to bring normalcy in the restive areas was discussed in detail. The JI Amir seconded the views of the government team that political and democratic forces should stand united for the continuity of the ongoing democratic process in the country and frustrate any move aimed at derailment of the system.
The sources in the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) informed that in coming days the party leaders would also be holding a meeting with the leadership of other political parties ostensibly to evolve consensus on major issues facing the people of Pakistan and to strengthen the democratic institutions in the country.
In a fresh move the PML-N leaders have also approached ANP President Asfandyar Wali to fix a meeting with him to discuss the national issues, confirmed the Central Information Secretary of the party Senator Zahid Khan quickly adding that the time and venue of the meeting are not finalised yet.
The sources in the government informed that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would himself be contacting PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari shortly to allay his concerns about what some circles say the political victimisation of some of PPP senior leaders.
It is pertinent to mention here that the PPP leadership in the recent past had made it loud and clear that they would not become part of any conspiracy against the incumbent political dispensation and would want to see the PML-N government complete its mandated constitutional term.
The assurance came following the PML-Q President Ch. Shujaat Hussain's meeting with PAT Chairman Tahirul Qadri in London in the recent past to form an alliance against the government.
On the other hand though PTI Chairman Imran Khan so far not boarded the PAT-PML-Q bandwagon but he was also out in the streets against what he termed the massive rigging in the last general elections and gradually building public pressure against the government, the main beneficiary of the alleged rigging.
