ISLAMABAD - Women entrepreneurs from different walks of life displayed beautiful wide assortment of craft items and shared their experiences on the eve of International Womens Day celebrations on Monday at an exhibition. The craft exhibition included ceramics, clothing, bags, jewellery, dry arrangements and a collection of other attractively hand-made items to meet the needs of visitors and the local community. Different NGOs in collaboration of Serena Hotel celebrated Womens Enterprise Development Exhibition to honour the event and to pay tribute to the women of Pakistan and their contributions to all avenues of life. Women entrepreneurs sharing their experiences stressed the need to provide craftswomen opportunities to display their work. Munazza Farrukh Shah who had displayed wide variety of hand-made clothing and jewellery box said the women who made all that stuff couldnt come to big cities to sell their products. That is the only way for them to sell their products and in most of the cases they are paid very low according to their hard work. Most of the of profit goes to the pockets of middlemen and those who finally sell the products in big cities earn heavy amounts. They said women should be given sufficient resources to display their crafts without the involvement of middleman and enjoy the entire earning which is their right hoping that customers will continue to come and buy and that the contributors will continue to provide supplies. Saima Zaidi who has written the famous book Mazaar, Bazaar informed the book was an interdisciplinary study on design and visual culture in Pakistan and documents contemporary visual vernacular and provides an overview of the impact of diverse cultures assimilated over several millennia. It reflects social, commercial and geo-political changes influencing this region, and addresses a broad horizon of graphic expressions. Dr Afshan Siddiqui and Ms Zarminae Ansari who has completed her Masters in History, Theory and Criticism in Architecture from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, also spoke on the event about their experiences.
