The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday appointed senior lawyer Qazi Jameel as new prosecutor in Malik Riaz contempt of court case.
A two- member bench of apex court comprising Justice Ejaz Afzal and Justice Ejaz Chaudhary was hearing the contempt of court case against Malik Riaz.
During the hearing the court was informed that Malik Riaz could not appear before the court due to illness.
In the previous hearing, the court had ousted Attorney General Irfan Qadir as prosecutor in the case, and had sought a list of senior lawyers from Registrar Office to appoint a new Prosecutor.
The court appointed former AGP and president SCBA Qazi Jameel as prosecutor in the case.
In his remarks, Justice Ejaz Afzal said the court is optimistic that the new prosecutor would appropriately handle the case.
Meanwhile, the court dismissed a petition against placing the name of Malik Riaz in exit control list (ECL).
Later, the hearing was adjourned for an indefinite period.
