ISLAMABAD - Islamabad High Court Tuesday accepted post arrest bail plea of Kanwal wife of Malik Sikandar, the main accused of Islamabad standoff case.
The DB comprising Justice Riaz Ahmad Khan and Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui granted her bail against the surety bonds worth Rs0.2 million.
It is pertinent to mention here that Malik Sikandar along with his wife Kanwal and children held Islamabad hostage for hours on Aug 15.
During the hearing, the division bench observed that the matter is under investigation and the investigators have yet to prove Kanwal’s connivance with her husband,s offence.
The DB added that since the accused is mother of two children, so she may be granted bail.
Earlier, an Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) Islamabad had rejected bail plea of Kanwal on September 05.
Kanwal Sikandar moved her bail petition through her counsel Rana Ejaz Ahmed Khan advocate and adopted before the court that neither she was in prior knowledge of Islamabad incident nor she was involved in the planning of her husband.
The counsel argued that she did not pick arms and the inclusion of terrorism charges to her matter was not relevant.
Rana Ejaz contended that Kanwal was under the influence of her husband and she accompanied her husband just for the sake of recreation.
He added that she asked her husband many times to surrender before the police.
The prosecutor opposed her bail plea stating that she committed criminal offence.
However, the DB granted her bail and directed her to appear before the trial court on every hearing of the case.
