A full court reference held in honour of the outgoing Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in Islamabad Wednesday hailed the CJP’s role for the rule of law and strengthening of judiciary in Pakistan.
Justice Chaudhry is retiring from his service Wednesday.
Addressing the reference in Islamabad, Chief Justice-designate Justice Tasadduq Jillani paid rich tributes to the outgoing chief justice, saying that Justice Chaudhry redefined the history of law with his courage and resoluteness.
He said that Justice Chaudhry created awareness about fundamental human rights and the rule of law in Pakistan, and ensured the independence of judiciary and the democracy.
He said the decisions taken by the Supreme Court during the tenure of Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry as chief justice will always be remembered. “He took every effective decisions for the elimination of corruption and for the sake of good governance in the country.”
Addressing on the occasion, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said restoration of judiciary and the role of lawyers and civil society has strengthened judiciary. He hoped the new Chief Justice will play a vital role in providing justice to the people.
Addressing the reference‚ Attorney General Muneer A. Malik said that the period of Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry as Chief Justice was a historic one. He said the chief justice worked for maintaining prestige of the judiciary and rule law.
