Woman accuses officials of manhandling

RAWALPINDI - A gang of Railway police along with an assistant station master and naib qasid mercilessly thrashed a woman passenger on a minor mistake of sitting in waiting room of Rawalpindi Railway Station, reliable sources revealed to The Nation on Tuesday.
The victim lady has been running from pillar to post in search of justice but neither Rawalpindi police nor railways authorities are providing her with justice. The acting Station House Officer (SHO) PS Railways declared the victim lady a "psycho" apparently to save his and other subordinates' skin from legal action.
According to sources, a lady Aziza Begum, resident of Rawalpindi, reached railway station on 13/11/2013 and bought a ticket to travel on Taizgam Express. The lady sat in waiting room before the departure of train, sources said, when ASM Najam-ul-Hassan, naib qasid Muhammad Sadiq along with Railway Police Station ASI Nawab Khan and four ladies constables Shahida Yasmin, Almas Bibi, Bushra Bibi and Sagheera Nazli entered the waiting room and started beating the woman with kicks, punches and sticks.
Aziza Begum, when contacted, confirmed the inhuman incident saying she was waiting for arrival of train in waiting room when she felt faulty smell emitting from washroom. She said that she closed the door of the washroom. In the meanwhile, Muhammad Sadiq started misbehaving with her and later he called police and ASM who beat her.
"They thrashed me so much that I received severe injuries on my shoulders, knees, skull and different joints," she said, showing medico-legal report (MLR) to this scribe.
She told that she first went PS Railway but they pushed her out and then she lodged a complaint with SSP (Operations) Rawalpindi who referred her application to SP Potohar Division.
However, none of police high-up took action against the culprits; rather humiliated her. She said in chocked voice, "I also filed a writ petition under section 21-A in the court of Nadia Zahra for penning a case against the culprits".
Acting SHO PS Railway Dilwaiz, when approached by this scribe in his office, denied the allegations levelled by the lady and declared her a "psycho". He said that the lady was sitting in gents' waiting room instead of women and when ASM asked her to sit in ladies waiting room, she refused. On this, ASM called police, which sent her out from the railway station.
Aziza Begum appealed to IG Railways and City Police Officer (CPO) to take notice of the inhuman incident and punish the responsible.
