Justice Anwar Zahir Jamali has remarked “Intelligence agencies should change their routine and no illegal action would be tolerated.
He gave these remarks while presiding over a 3-member bench of Supreme Court (SC) during the course of hearing of case of missing persons including Rizwan Kafil, Ahmad Ejaz and Shabbir Ahmad Usmani Friday.
He further remarked “we want rule of law in the country and missing person’s cases are impediment on the way to rule of law. Those who escape the matter by giving reply on every occasion should get recover the missing persons as well. The pain and anguish being felt by family members of missing persons was already enormous in its extent that they are now being harassed more. Intelligence agencies should bring change in their routine and no illegal action will be tolerated now. If some one is criminal then one be proceeded against as per law and be kept in jail. We will take all possible measures for the protection of the people. Institutions should put their own house in order.
Additional Attorney General (AAG) Tariq Khokhar, Amna Masud Janjua and Additional Advocate General Punjab Tahir Malik appeared in the court.
Tariq Khokhar told the court police was accused of picking up the persons forcibly in two out of three cases. Incomplete reports have been filed in this regard, he added. More time be given in this matter, he prayed. The court gave him time of two weeks.
Kafil Ahmad father of Rizwan Kafil who had gone missing from Rawalpindi told the court that his life has been made miserable. Personnel of sensitive agencies come to his home in plain clothes and thereat him saying that he should withdraw the case, he said.
He prayed the court to provide him protection.
The court ordered the Additional Attorney General (AAG) and government of Punjab to provide protection to him against the threats of intelligence agencies, recover the missing persons within two weeks and produce them before it.
The hearing of the case was adjourned for two weeks.
