ISLAMABAD-Suffering from a number of contagious diseases such as Diarrhoea, skin allergy, eye-infection and Pneumonia, Internally Displaced Persons are taking temporary shelter in G-7/1 and still waiting for medical help from the quarters concerned. Set up near a Nullah, the camp is presenting a deplorable picture. So far, neither the government nor any civil society organisation has extended helping hand for provision of any kind of medical facility to them. The average size camp that can hardly accommodate two persons is stuffed with 12 to 15 persons and depicts a clear picture of unhygienic living conditions of the innocent people. The area where the IDPs are settling is surrounded by Nullah from two sides, which is a best breeding place for mosquitoes. This scribe also experienced the mosquitoes buzzing around and they were ready to attack any one without distinguishing between an outsider and the residents of these camps. We are going through the worst times of our life, we would rather have a bomb fall on our heads and in that case we would not be living to experience all this, lamented Zar Sanagy whit her eyes filled with tears. She herself was going through extreme abdominal pain and sometimes it became unbearable. We do not even have few rupees to go to the nearby hospital, she almost cried while describing her ordeal. She said earlier 48 families were residing in twenty camps and now after arrival of new seven families from the war-torn areas there is acute shortage of camps. Around 60 to 70 kids are residing along with their parents and most of them have got bad skin allergy and diarrhoea. Two days ago a young ladys condition got worse as she was pregnant. She delivered baby in absence of medical help and as a result her child could not survive later she was shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences. According to Khursheed Khan representative of the camp another old man Sher Zameen who arrived alone before start of operation in Buner for treatment purpose suffered a cardiac attack on Monday as his son informed him that a dozen of his relatives died in a recent attack on their village. Sher Zamans family is trapped in Buner and despite repeated attempts neither he could manage to go back nor he can arrange to help his family to reach some safe place. When Secretary Health Kushnood Lashari was contacted to comment on the situation he said, as per my information there is no IDPs camp in capital however if there is anyone then it is ultimate responsibility of ICT administration to take any action. He said today (Tuesday) the Health Minister would visit IDPs camp in District Mardan. In a recent meeting Director General Health NWFP briefed about the latest health situation of the IDPs camps. There are around 19 places in which 500,000 people have been accommodated and we are fully committed to providing every possible medical help to them, he continued.
