ISLAMABAD (PPI) - National policy and plan of action for gradual elimination of all forms of child labour in Paksitan is to be implemented soon. In this connection, the government is also collaborating with the ILO under International Programme for Elimination of Child Labour. Under this a number of action programmes addressing the areas of law and policy development, institutional capacity building and direct intervention with the working children have been undertaken and some are still in progress. Through these programmes more than seventy-five thousand children have already been withdrawn and prevented from workplaces. A programme for rehabilitation of child labourers has also been launched under which more than one hundred and fifty rehabilitation centres have been established in different cities being run by Pakistan Baitul Mal. In these Centres children withdrawn from workplaces are imparted education and training with a view to rehabilitating and inducting them into the mainstream of education. Government is also preparing a Time Bound Programme for Elimination of Worst forms of child labour. The Programme will develop a framework for eliminating worst forms of child labour and prohibiting future entry of children in such occupations with a timeframe of eight years. Pakistan Decent Work Country Programme has been prepared by the Ministry of Labour in collaboration with the ILO and employers and workersI organizations. The primary goal of the DWCP is to promote opportunities for women and men to obtain decent and productive work, in conditions of freedom, equity, security and human dignity. Elimination of hazardous child labour through a time bound approach is a key element of Decent Work Country Programme for Pakistan .
