RAWALPINDI - Recently instituted National College of Arts (NCA) Rawalpindi campus is facing multiple problems in its expansion of new faculties and departments in absence of sufficient land for this purpose. Talking to the media men here on Tuesday, Principal National College of Arts (NCA) Prof Naazish Ata-Ullah told that Rawalpindi campus of the college needed a piece of land in Islamabad since it was pledged by the government at the time of its inception. Prof Naazish was of the view that it is a national institution as it has quota system and students from all corners of the country came here to get education. It is a unique institute which provides national integrity because students of the college go back in their respective areas after experiencing and sharing values and culture of their fellow students of various areas, she maintained. But she regretted that inspite of this fact, this educational institution is not being given proper attention as the college also lacked its own hostel building. Extending the future plans of the college, Principal NCA informed that college had planned to establish other departments like Design Faculty, Multimedia Art programme and Theatre Department. Unfortunately, the college has no land to build more buildings for the new faculties, she maintained. She added that although college was promised to provide a piece of land in Islamabad at the time of its inception yet the same was not given despite the lapse of four years. She further added that 30-acre land was allocated near Kurri village in Islamabad to build its full-fledged campus but the NCA had no funds to acquire the land. Narrating the other problems facing the college, she told that the college campus is also deprived of other facilities like hostel accommodation, playing fields and library. In absence of any hostel building, the administration of college is compelled to reside the students in hired buildings for which college has to spend a lot of money of its budget for this purpose, she added. Referring to another problem, she told that all the staff of the college is working on the contractual basis and it had no permanent post for any position. Therefore, she stressed the need of permanent faculty and the staff members. Even the visiting faculty is reluctant to come here to deliver lecture to the students due to its locality, she remarked. She demanded the government to provide a piece of land for proper premises of college in a suitable area for the growth of this institution.
