ISLAMABAD - While the date to produce former army chief Gen. Pervez Musharraf before the court is fast approaching, the high-ups of Islamabad police are in a fix to make fool-proof security for his convoy.
None of police officials of the Islamabad police, including IGP Sikander Hayat, was willing to talk to media on this particular subject on Wednesday.
A wave of fear has revisited the capital following the intelligence reports about expected militant attack in Islamabad especially Musharraf’s convoy to court.
On Monday last, the Federal Interior Secretary had informed the PM Secretariat and President House about the militant activity especially targeting Musharraf’s convoy to court on March 14.
He had also directed the IGP Islamabad to beef up security across the capital, so that no court attack-like incidents recur in the city.
While the IGP refused to take up calls made on his personal and official phone numbers, a spokesperson of ICT police told this scribe that security has been beefed up across the federal capital in the wake of the warning.
However, he was tight lipped when asked about what kind of security steps were taken for Musharraf security court route.
A source from the Federal Interior Ministry said, joint security teams of Rangers and ICT police would ensure security for Pervez Musharraf. He denied reports of asking 111-Brigade to escort the former military chief for appearance in court.
