Bids to smuggle flour foiled

RAWALPINDI- Police foiled an attempt to smuggle a huge quantity of flour from Punjab to NWFP and seized 18 tons flour from a truck and arrested the accused in the jurisdiction of Police Station Chontra, informed the officials here on Monday. According to the details, CPO  Rawalpindi  had issued directions to establish special pickets to thwart flour and wheat smuggling and launched crackdown against the smugglers involved in this illegal activity. Chontra police intercepted a truck (Swat- 0046) coming from Chakri village and seized 18 tons flour from the truck. Police arrested the two accused Muhammad Yaqoob (truck driver) and Saeed Iqbal residents of Batkhaila, and registered cases against them under Food Control Act. During the investigation,  they  disclosed that a food Inspector Zafar helped them to cross the limits of District Jehlum with whom they had contact through phone. In another bid to halt flour smuggling to NWFP, Westridge police confiscated 100 sacks of flour from a bus (P-2171) near Hameeda Check Post and arrested Noor Islam (driver) and Alam Zaib (owner).
