Intel officials storm police station, thrash cops

ISLAMABAD - Officials of an intelligence agency Tuesday attacked Sabzi Mandi police station and gave a sound beating to the cops therein, reports said.
The incident came in the wake of some policemen misbehaving with an intelligence official near Mandi More earlier in the day. That official was without a helmet and the policemen impounded his motorcycle when he failed to prove his identity and provide the documents of the vehicle.  The police officials allegedly maltreated the intelligence official when he threatened them of severe consequences.  Later after sometime, the intelligence official, along with 10 colleagues, attacked the police station to take revenge of his insult.  The intelligence officials closed down the main gate of the police station and gave a sound thrashing to on-duty cops. Four of them, Imran, Umer Draz, Farhad and Javed, were severely injured: one received severe head injury while another lost his teeth.  When all this was happening, an ASI, Sarfraz, crept away and informed his seniors about the episode over his mobile phone.  Interestingly, when SSP Operations Dr Rizwan came in he adopted an apologetic attitude and himself tried to hush up the disgraceful matter instead of taking a stern approach or lodging a protest over the highhandedness of the intelligence officials.   Seeing the submissive behavior of the SSP, the intelligence officials left, warning the cops to be careful in future and avoid confronting with them.
The wounded cops who were lying on the ground haplessly were later shifted to a private hospital for treatment. The spokesperson for the police could not be reached for comments even after repeated attempts by this news agency.
