ISLAMABAD - Two suspected patients of Congo fever lost their lives on Wednesday night while the condition of two other patients of the same family admitted at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) was stated to be critical.
According to hospital officials, four members of a family from Hawalian contracted Congo virus, as they are butchers by profession. One of the patients was died on the way to hospital and the other, Sheeraz, 21 years old, lost his life after reaching hospital.
The two admitted patients are Arif, 28 and Yosuf, 60. Yosuf is a father of the other three patients.
According to doctors, the condition of Yosuf was serious. He was transfused four bags of platelets but he was vomiting blood. The Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) virus causes severe viral haemorrhagic fever outbreaks.
