RAWALPINDI – The Education Department has banned the transfers of teachers in Rawalpindi district, among other districts of the province, till further orders.
When contacted, Executive District Officer (EDO) Education, Qazi Zahoorul Haq confirmed the news and informed that the ban has been put most probably till the end of current academic year. The transfers have been banned so that the teachers fully concentrate on the education of the students ahead of the 5th and 8th grade exams, he added.
Meanwhile, on the directives of the secretary education Punjab under the policy of rationalization of schools, the department has decided to declare 600 male and female teachers of Rawalpindi district in different categories as surplus.
The implementation of the policy of rationalization would start after the end of the current academic year and completed before the start of the next academic year.
In this connection, a meeting of Principal of Government Jamia Boys High School Dhok Kashmirian, Chaudhry Yaseen and the district and tehsil officials of Education Department in the school was held the other day. The meeting discussed the issues related to policy of rationalization and merging of the schools and reached the decision.
Teachers unions have expressed reservations on the decision. Punjab Teachers Union and Punjab SES Teachers Association had also threatened to start a protest movement against the decision, as new recruitments would not be held after the implementation of the policy.
