CJP takes suo motu notice

ISLAMABAD - Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar has taken suo motu notice of news reports regarding the protest of an old man along with his family outside Rawalpindi/Islamabad Press Club against Jehlum police for allegedly killing his son during custody. According to reports, deceased Raja Ashraf was killed after allegedly being beaten by police in Deeena police station. Police had contended that Raja Asghar was involved in robberies. Taking suo motu notice of the incident and the protest of aggrieved family, Chief Justice of Pakistan has directed DPO Jehlum to appear in person along with the detailed report of the matter within a week positively in the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, as many as six Benches of Supreme Court of Pakistan have disposed of 37 cases on Thursday, said a court official. Extending details of the disposal of cases se cases, the official said five benches of Supreme Court at Principal Seat Islamabad disposed of 28 cases while one bench of Supreme Court disposed of 9 cases at Branch Registry Lahore. A large number of Lawyers appeared before the apex Court in pursuit of different cases.
