Residents facing serious health hazards

RAWALPINDI - The residents of Ahmedabad, near Qasim Aviation Base, are facing serious health hazards as stinking heaps of garbage remain uncollected on the streets and roads. The sanitary condition in the thickly populated area remains always poor due to the negligence of the high ups and sanitary workers of Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB) as heaps of garbage could be witnessed dumped along with Qasim Aviation Base. There is no any garbage bin in the area while the inhabitants of the area throw garbage along with roadsides at Ahmedabad. These uncollected heaps of garbage also attract a vast numbers of birds, which can be a threat for the helicopters and other small planes take off and land at Qasim Aviation Base. The CCB sanitary workers rarely visit the area to collect the waste. The foul smell emanating from the debris has become unbearable these days. The children in the area are the worst affected as they fall ill often due to unhygienic conditions, residents of Ahmedabad pointed out while talking to TheNation here on Sunday. The mosquito menace has increased to alarming proportion. The number of stray dogs has also increased. A shopkeeper Saleem said that the sanitary condition in the area remained poor, as the CCB sanitary workers do not visit the area on daily basis. Najibullah, a taxi driver, said that the CCB had promised door-to-door waste collection and cleaning of drains regularly but in this area, the exercise is not being carried out properly, he alleged. Marzia Bibi, waiting for Suzuki at bus stand, was of view that the shopkeepers and vendors regularly throw garbage and waist of their shops in nullah along with the road and now it had completely choked owing to garbage. After rain dirty water also enters into the houses, located in low areas, she lamented.
