CDA plans to replace decades old water, sewerage pipelines

ISLAMABAD - Capital Development Authority is planning to replace 40-year-old water and sewerage pipelines in the city.
Mechanical sweeping will also soon be started for main avenues of the city including Jinnah Avenue, Islamabad Highway and 9th Avenue. The sanitation staff working there will be used to further improve CDA services for other areas of the city. Capital Development Authority will start a tree plantation move from March during which 600,000 plants will be planted. Different organisations including NGOs will collaborate with CDA during this tree plantation drive. Member Environment and Engineering Capital Development Authority (CDA), Sanaulla Aman expressed these views while addressing as chief guest here at a ceremony to initiate "Clean and Green Islamabad" Campaign for I-9 sector here on Friday.  Senior officials of the CDA, members of civil society, representatives of traders, residents societies, welfare societies, students, and common citizens were present in significant number on the occasion.
Clean and green environment is the guarantee of healthy and hearty life. The Capital Development Authority is applying all available resources to further strengthen the status of Islamabad as one of the most clean and green cities in the world. The residents of the capital should also put forward their warm-hearted backing for this sacred purpose, the Member further said. Clean and Green Islamabad campaign is initially focusing on six sectors including I-10, I-9, G-10, G-9, F-7 and F-6. The campaign has already started from 12th of February from sector I-10 to conclude on February 25, 2014. In second phase, CDA will start "Clean and Green Islamabad" campaign for remaining sectors in March. The "Clean and Green Islamabad" campaign is meticulously designed, which will cover all areas of civic life.  The Member Engineering and Environment added."Clean and Green Islamabad" campaign's target is to accelerate cleanliness work in residential and commercial areas of Islamabad. In addition to this the campaign will further focus on the infrastructure up gradation including sewerage, green belts, parks, play areas and other relevant civic amenities. Tree plantation for increase in greenery is also among major objectives of the campaign. But more than that, "Clean and Green Islamabad" is an awareness campaign.
All the stakeholders including Capital Development Authority, traders, civil society, students and residents of the city need to be persistently vigilant about cleanliness and greenery in the capital. All of us have to play our due role for this sacred cause, the Member added. The presence of representatives of traders, civil society, welfare societies, residents' societies, students and common citizens in a large number on this occasion is the testimony of keenness of all stakeholders to keep this city clean and green. CDA being responsible Authority for cleanliness and greenery is well aware of and quite prepared for the job. "Let's be lasting allies for development of the city", the Member further said on the occasion.
