ISLAMABAD - Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Pervaiz Rashid on Monday accused Pakistan Awami Tehreek [PAT] and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf [PAT] of using funds raised through donations for political gains.
"Imran Khan has started following the footprints of Dr Tahiurl Qadri," said Rashid in a statement. Rashid alleged that PAT leader Dr Qadri had already been spending funds raised through donations on his political campaign and that PTI chief had also started following his footprints.
Rashid alleged that Imran is collecting donations abroad to finance his Tsunami March in Pakistan. Imran Khan should not forget that such spending neither did any good to anyone before nor will it do so in future, he added.
He advised the PTI chairman to raise funds with an aim to undertake social welfare works, besides helping the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of North Waziristan. Instead of using huge money on political rallies, Khan should have raised and spent funds on IDPs, he added.
Rashid urged Imran to launch an appeal abroad for IDPs instead of collecting money for bringing destructions and tsunami in the country. Imran should consider about fetching money for Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, Namal University of Mianwali, which direly needed money.
Earlier, the government started investigations into financial matters of PAT and it was the minister for information who had said a few weeks ago that Dr Qadri had come to Pakistan on his own choice but he would only be able to leave if the law permitted him.
According to the officials privy to the development, the government would look into the accounts of PAT, national and international transactions, money spent by the PAT for advertisement before and during the sit-in in Islamabad in 2013.
