ISLAMABAD - A proclaimed offender wanted in various fraud cases has escaped to Peshawar in a land cruiser belonging to a FATA senator when police flagged down his vehicle here at a check post.
According to sources, Abdul Waheed Khan, proclaimed offender, came to Islamabad on Saturday last and stayed at the Parliament Lodges. He met SNGPL officials along with two FATA parliamentarians on Monday, the sources said. In the evening, Islamabad police signalled Waheed to stop his vehicle at a check post on Kashmir Highway but he didn't stop the land cruiser and escaped towards Peshawar. According to sources, over two-dozen fraud cases are registered against Waheed and his wife with police stations of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Sources said that the couple was being protected by two FATA parliamentarians. He visits the federal capital frequently but the police force seems reluctant to act against him due to his contacts with the parliamentarians, the sources concluded.
