Muttahida Qaumi Moverment (MQM) leader Wasim Akhtar today accused the Sindh Government of patronizing bhatta mafia in Karachi.
Speaking to newsmen outside the Parliament House, Akhtar said MQM has raised this issue in the corridors of power in the federal capital. He said markets and industries are being shut down due to growing incidents of extortion.
Meanwhile, senior MQM leader Haider Abbaz Rizvi urged President Asif Ali Zardari to take personal interest to curb extortion in Karachi.
“President Zardari should intervene if Prime Minister Gilani cannot curb the menace,” Rizvi said.
Both Prime Minister Gilani and Interior Minister Rehman Malik are helpless before the extortion mafia, he said, adding only President Zardari can resolve this matter.
