ISLAMABAD - The groundbreaking ceremony of a 20-bed state-of-the-art Dialysis Center at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) held was here on Thursday.
The ceremony was attended by doctors, nurses, paramedics, professors and all the members of the administration.  Addressing the gathering PIMS Executive Director Prof. Dr. Mahmood Jamal said that it’s an honour for the PIMS that such a latest dialysis unit is going to be established at the hospital.
He thanked Junaid Iqbal Chaudry, former Secretary Ministry of Capital Administration and Development for his support in the establishment of such a latest dialysis unit of which final approval was given by the Prime Minister.
The dialysis centre with 20 installed dialysis machines will start soon. As many as 10 dialysis machines will be provided by the PIMS Nephrology Department while another 10 will be donated by the Zahoor Mehtab Trust. The trust will complete this double-storey dialysis building in one year with the total cost of Rs.40 million including the cost of building and equipment and salaries of staff.
The dialysis center will be free for all and will be equipped with all the latest equipment needed in dialysis unit. The trust will continuously provide funds for the unit and its staff and for the patients of kidney diseases who need dialysis. Professor Ghias-ud-Deen Butt, Head of Nephrology Department, who will run this unit along with the trained staff, said the rich people should come forward and help the poor patients.
