Pakistan to host World Cup Volleyball qualifiers

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan will host the qualifying round of the forthcoming World Cup Volleyball Championship 2010 that will be starting from January 28 at the Laiquat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad. According to Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) Secretary Major (R) Muhammad Afzal that Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) had awarded the tournament to Pakistan, which will be held at Liaquat Gymnasium Islamabad from January 28 to 30 in which four teams would compete for the top position. He said that originally this round was scheduled to be held from January 1 to 3 at the same venue, in which besides hosts Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives and Macau had to participate in the three-day international fixture. Now, foreign teams would arrive in the federal capital on January 26. "Two teams will qualify for the second round, which will be conducted in Thailand in May 2009. Top two countries will join Japan and Korea in the third round, which will be hosted by Japan in August. The leading spikers will get berth for the World Championship 2010, which will be held in Italy in October 2010," he maintained. PVF Secretary said that a national volleyball training camp also got underway at the Liaquat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Complex. As many as 22 spikers are taking part in the camp under the supervision of Iranian coach Ali Reza Moameri.
