President consults allies, services chiefs on security, foreign policy issues

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Miister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani held a meeting with heads of allied parties at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Saturday and exchanged views on security and foreign policy issues including the recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security about re-engagement with the United States. The meeting was attended by Chaudhry Pervaz Ilahi, Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, Mr. Asfandyar Wali Khan, Senator Afrasiab Khattak, Dr. Farooq Sattar, Mr. Haider Abbas Rizvi, Senator Mir Israrullah Zehri, Mr. Munir Khan Orakzai, Spokesperson to the President senator Farhatullah Babar and Engr Shaukat Ullah. Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar,  Finance Minister Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, COAS General Ashfaq Parvez Kiyani and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman, Lt. Gen Ahmed Shuja Pasha, DG ISI were also present during the meeting. Spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar said that the meeting was in continuation of an earlier meeting held on 14th of March. He said that the Foreign Minister and Army Chief briefed the meeting on security and foreign policy related issues. The coalition partners noted that the foreign relations with other countries should be based on mutual respect, mutual interests and in a transparent manner with the involvement of public representatives. The meeting placed on record its appreciation of the services and sacrifices rendered by the armed forces, paramilitary forces and the police in defending the country and fight against militancy. Spokesperson said that heads of allied parties congratulated the President for his record fifth address to the joint sitting of the Parliament. The President appreciated coalition partners for their contributions and
strong support.
