Rasool fires KRL to thumping win

ISLAMABAD - The 147th match of the Pakistan Premier Soccer League match saw Muhammad Rasool in fine touch, getting his third hat-trick of the event as once again star-studded Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) thrashed Afghan Football Club of Chaman 3-1 at KRL Stadium, Rawalpindi on Sunday. Muhammad Essa-led KRL is well on the way to become 54th National Football Champion of Pakistan and representative of Pakistan in fifth AFC President's Cup 2009.  The 14-team show has purse of Rs.5 lacs for the winner instead of Rs.3 lacs, whereas runner up team will walk away with Rs. 3 lacs instead of Rs.2 lacs. The third-placed team used to get Rs. 1 lac but they will be rewarded 2 lacs when the 138-day event will come to conclusion at Rawalpindi's Army Stadium on 6 December 2008 with Army-WAPDA clash. The most valuable player (MVP) will get Rs. 50,000 while leading marksman and best goal-keeper will pocket Rs. 30,000 each. Having won the first leg with authoritative 4-2 scoreline at Chaman's Govt High School, KRL  gave no room to visitors from Balochistan with two thumping goals from Rasool - a hero in Pakistan's double over Singapore in Beijing Olympics qualifiers last year - in the first session.Rasool broke the ice in the seventh minute when winger Muhammad Qasim went to the by line and cut the ball low across the area Chital-born spearhead to hit the back of the net. KRL's second goal also emerged in identical fashion. Qasim again caught the long ball, went to the goal line and steered the ball into Rasool's legs. The Afghan's defence failed to clear the ball and Rasool hammered the ball past Afghan's keeper.Young striker Mehmood Khan pulled one back in the final minute of first half when he raced onto midfielder Jadeed Khan's defence-splitter and sent angular shot past keeper Ghulam Nabi. It was Mehmood's fourth goal of the event. KRL led 2-1 at interval. Rasool raced his tally to 21 goals when he accelerated onto veteran Sajjad Hussain's pass to complete well-merited hat-trick. It was Rasool's third hat-trick, after three-goal spree against KESC and PTV. Today's fixtures: PTV v KPT (Jinnah Stadium,Pakistan Sports Complex at 3pm) Navy v KESC (Naval Complex , Islamabad at 3pm).
