Pakistan, S Arabia enjoy cordial friendship: Naveed

ISLAMABAD (APP) - Federal Minister for Privatisation and Investment Syed Naveed Qamar said here on Thursday that Pakistan would adopt an aggressive approach to boost trade with Saudi Arabia besides attracting its investment in the country. He was talking to Ambassador of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Ali Saeed Awadh Al-Asseri who called on him. Syed Naveed Qamar said that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia were enjoying cordial and tested friendship. He said that Saudi investors were welcome to invest in all economic sectors, particularly in dairy and agriculture. He requested the Ambassador to sensitize prominent Saudi investors to explore opportunities in forthcoming privatisation transactions of the Privatisation Commission. The Minister was of the view that a strategy may be devised by the Board of Investment and Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA) for implementing an effective strategy for the promotion of investment in both the countries. He also referred Pakistan as one of the most promising areas in the region for the local and foreign investors and informed the ambassador for organizing an investor's conference in Saudi Arabia in the near future. Speaking on the occasion, the ambassador assured the minister that Saudi Arabia would provide every possible support and assistance for facilitating investment from his country into Pakistan and prayed for prosperous, sovereign and progressive Pakistan. The ambassador assured the minister that he would also provide facilitation in coordination of meetings with his Saudi counterparts and leading Saudi investors. He emphasised the need for holding trade exhibitions, so as to provide enabling environment to showcase the potential of Pakistan to Saudi investors. Ahmed Waqar Secretary Investment Division and Board of Investment, and Executive Director General, Maj. (r) Iqbal Ahmad along with other BOI officials were also present during the meeting.
