SC gives Jan 22 for Tauqir Sadiq’s arrest

The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday granted National Accountability Bureau (NAB) time till January 22 to arrest former OGRA chairman Tauqir Sadiq allegedly involved in Rs80 billion scam.
A division bench of the apex court comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Justice Jawwad S Khawaja observed as to why the NAB was not able to arrest Sadiq if Sindh police could arrest Shahrukh Jatoi in Dubai.
Justice Khawaja remarked that nobody including the NAB was ready to take the case seriously. He said that it could be confirmed through the Senate logbook as to whose vehicle the accused traveled in on the Motorway.
He added that there were reports that Tauqir Sadiq traveled through the Motorway.
The CJ said that the accused escaped from NAB’s office after his arrest warrants were issued. He said that Tauqir Sadiq was not arrested despite a police team was present in Dubai for the purpose.
He said that court’s order in the appointment of the accused, as OGRA chairman were very clear.
The bench sought a report into efforts being carried out to arrest the accused before it put off the hearing till Jan 22.
