Lawyers boycott courts, vow to continue struggle

Lawyers are observing complete boycott of courts' proceedings across the country here on Thursday. They will also stage protest demonstration and hold rallies across the country today. On the other hand, heavy contingent of the rangers and police has been deployed at Jinnah Avenue and Shahr-e-Dastoor in Islamabad ahead of lawyers' protests while presence of armored vehicles were also noticed in the area. Some pro-government lawyers were also not allowed to go forward because of the barricades and hurdles created on all the links roads of the Supreme Court. Lawyers and members of civil society scuffled with police after which four persons were arrested. Besides, two groups of lawyers clashed each other in Multan. The protesting lawyers chanted anti-government and pro-chief justice slogans. The lawyers of Pakpatan District Bar Association held protest rally. Similarly, boycott is being observed in Karachi and other parts of the country. Karachi Bar Council has called it General Body meeting today in which deposed judge, Justice Musheer Alam will speak.
