The Adviser to Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and the Minister of Energy and Water of Afghanistan Muhammad Ismael held a meeting in Islamabad on Wednesday to discuss status of CASA-1000 Project.
Programme Director‚ Regional Integration (South Asia Region) of the World Bank Salman Zaheer was also present.
Salman Zaheer briefed on the outcome of the recently concluded Inter-Governmental Council's Meeting held in Islamabad where Ministers representing the Governments of Tajikistan‚ Kyrgyzstan‚ Afghanistan and Pakistan discussed CASA-1000 Project.
Salman Zaheer also expressed gratitude to the leadership of Pakistan for convening this important meeting and taking further the discussion process of the Project.
Afghan Minister of Energy and Water Mohammad Ismael hoped that CASA-1000‚ once completed‚ would further integrate Central Asian States in the economic and political spheres.
The Adviser to the Prime Minister observed that dynamic planning and further studies were needed to achieve the desired results from CASA-1000.
CASA-1000 Power Project‚ expected to be completed by 2017‚ is envisaged to provide 1000 MW of electricity to Pakistan and 300 MW to Afghanistan by Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan through Afghanistan.
The Project involves certain financial‚ commercial‚ legal and technical issues‚ which are presently being ironed out.
