'Possession of plots to D-12 allottees soon'

ISLAMABAD - Chairman of Capital Development Authority Imtiaz Inayat Elahi has said that the date for awarding possession of plots to the allottees of Sector D-12 would be announced soon, adding that the green belts, avenues and parks of the Sector would be made lush green with plantation of new trees. The Chairman said this while inaugurating the first-ever National Tree Plantation Day at Sector D-12 of the federal capital. Minister for Environment Hameedullah Jan Afridi and Minister for Special Initiatives Lal Muhammad Khan were also present on the occasion. A number of legislators, school children, representatives of citizens committees, traders and environmentalists planted trees on the occasion. The event was organized by CDA in collaboration of National Bank of Pakistan, Serena Hotel, Nestle, Olpers and Yammy. The CDA Chairman, on the occasion, informed the Minister for Environment that CDA had planned to plant more than 0.12 million saplings in urban areas of the city during the ongoing monsoon season. The saplings are being planted along different avenues, highways and in the green belts, parks, play fields and new sectors of the city. An estimated 0.28 million saplings are also being planted in the rural areas of the city including Margallah Hills and Simly Dam Catchment area. The CDA Chief said that in the on going plantation drive preference is being given to indigenous species of trees, including Amaltas, Kachnar, Dhak, Sukh Chain and Chirpine. The CDA chief further informed that on the National Tree Plantation Day, CDA is planting 0.1 million saplings on different sites, which include 60,000 saplings in the Margallah Hills, 25,000 in Sector D-12 and another 15,000 saplings are being planted along the Islamabad Highway. The Capital Development Authority has already launched three-year special campaign on Clean & Green Islamabad from Monsoon, 2008. Under this campaign, 2.4 million saplings will be planted in different parts of the city. CDA has so far planted 0.769 saplings in this campaign, which include 0.390 million saplings during Monsoon, 2008 and 0.379 million during spring 2009. During the current Monsoon season, CDA has been assigned a target of 0.4 million saplings, Chairman CDA informed. The Authority has also established five sale point kiosks at prominent places including Jinnah Avenue, Shahrah-e-Kashmir and Islamabad Highway, where saplings are made available on subsidized rates to the general public. Educational institutions are being provided the saplings free of cost as per their demand. The informative and publicity material is also available at these points, Chairman CDA further said. He also said that the date for awarding possession of plots to the allottees of Sector D-12 would soon be announced. He said there would be no more delay in award of possession.
