ISLAMABAD - The government has not made any change in the law of capital punishment and in this connection Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif has not passed any orders.
The PM spokesman said that the Prime Minister has not made any changes in the law of awarding death penalty and the matter was deferred on the request of President who wanted to discuss the issue with the Prime Minister.
The meeting of President and Prime Minister would likely be held after the return of former from abroad and then after consultation on it some fresh guideline would be given.
APP adds: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid on Sunday said that execution of the death sentence had been halted temporarily. This has been done as the President had expressed the desire through a letter to discuss the matter with the Prime Minister, he added.
Talking to a private TV channel, he said that according to the law the President was the final authority to approve the execution of death penalty.
He said the President was on a foreign visit nowadays and the decision regarding the death sentence would be taken on his return.
