ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif has constituted a two-member committee to review the security-related issues of media persons while performing their duties.
The decision was taken following the attack on the vehicle of a local television channel the other day resulting into the martyrdom of three employees.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif constituted a committee comprising Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed and Federal Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan to contact the media houses and journalists bodies to devise a foolproof security strategy for them, particularly when they are performing their professional duties.
The committee, according to sources, would also provide adequate security to the offices of various media houses in the federal capital and would also suggest measures to the provincial governments to take appropriate measures to secure the offices of various media offices in their respective provinces.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister has also constituted a committee comprising parliamentarians to review mega development projects with specific focus on finding out corruption and embezzlement done during the previous government’s tenure.
The review committee led by Hamza Shahbaz and consisting of Senator Mushahidullah Khan, Minister of State Jam Kamal and MNAs Capt (Retd) Mohammad Safdar and Ch Jafar Iqbal would submit monthly report to the Prime Minister.
The committee has started its function under the head of Hamza Shahbaz and it was decided in the inaugural meeting held a few days back that the mega uplift projects in far-flung areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA would be reviewed in the first phase.
Reports said that the committee has been formed after it came to the knowledge of the Prime Minister that millions of rupees were released for 49 potable water supply projects in KPK and FATA but no groundwork was done on any of these projects. Moreover, the PM also came to know that some parliamentarians had taken kickbacks and commissions in development projects.
