Inter-university contest concludes at IST

ISLAMABAD (APP) - The "Twin-City Inter-University Challenge," concluded here at Institute of Space Technology, which was participated by 13 universities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad in various competitions. The two-day event was a mixture of different competitions including Declamation, Bilingual Story writing and Essay writing, Video Shoot, Photography, Dramatics and All Rounder competitions. The participating universities included: Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU), Army Medical College (AMC), Military College of Signals (MCS), Comsats Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), NUST Business School (NBS), Foundation University Islamabad (FUI), Islamic International University (IIU) and Preston University. The wide assortment of contests proved to be a platform for students to interact and share their ideas with each other. In fact the maiden event was a solo expedition by IST aimed at inculcating the spirit of extra-curricular activities among the students of universities. On the first day of the extravaganza, the contests of Story Writing, Essay Writing and Video Shoots were held.  After the inauguration of the event, the Bilingual Declamation contest took place. This competition gave an enthusiastic start to  the whole event. In English category, Hassan Ali from UET-Taxila won the first prize while Second position was shared by Anis Qazi from Foundation University Medical College and Nabil Tahir of AMC. Hadia Rehman from FJWU bagged third position. In Urdu category, Syed Urooj Akhter of CIIT triumphed the contest finding first position, the runners-up were Rimsha Mehboob from IIU-W and Asim Minallah of AMC. Ali Abbas Rizvi, Professor Ather Zaidi and Qari Saeed Akhter having honorable names in the community of Debates, literature, academics and arts were the judges of the contest. The Essay-writing competition was also an interesting event in which Raffay Tasawwar from MCS toppled the contest, whereas Umar Malik of NUST Business School was the runner-up. M. Arsalan from CIIT and Mawra Ilyas representing IIU-W, stood third. In Urdu Essay Writing competition, Muhammad Kamran of AMC stood first while second and third positions were won by Ahmed Raza (MCS) and Sohaib Zafar (Riphah University) respectively. Atiya Riaz and Parveen Baqar, the renowned academicians and subject specialists were the judges of the event. There was a Story Writing competition in Urdu and English. In "Muqabla Kahani Navasi", Hafiz Zain ul Abideen representing UET-Taxila grabbed the event marking first position. Usman Hameed from Riphah International University made second position. The third position was shared by Sobia Shaheen (IIU-W) and Umar Khan of AMC.  In English part of the contest, NUST Business School represented by Fatima Zahra got the first prize. Murtaza Zaman of AMC took second and Fizza Bhatti from Foundation University grabbed third position. The judges of the contest were the experts of their respective fields. Dr Jawad Hamdani and Faryal Zafar appreciated the contestants for their abilities of writing and expression. The video shoot competition was the last segment of the first day of the competition. The documentary "Snakes & People," of the Fatima Jinnah University brought them the third position. Army Medical College stood second for their video "Khwaab Adhoray sahi", whereas the "Polio-free Pakistan", showing the feelings of a polio-victim boy by Foundation University was marked as the best work. On the occasion, Naseer Malik bearing a remarkable experience of productions and camera work in PTV and Waqas Bin Najeeb holding a distinct position in the community of directors of video-shoots, were present as the judges of the contest.   The second day of the competition started with an interesting and enthralling all-rounder competition. The participating teams had to qualify through numerous challenging rounds especially the poetry, quiz, dumb charades, extempore speech were among the burning rounds. The judges were Bilal Sufi, working in FM 101 and having an experience of hosting a large number of radio programs, and Ali Abbas the all-rounder himself. Riphah International University grabbed the event marking them as the "all- rounder" of the twin-city competition. The NUST Business School was the Runner- up. The dramatics competition was the last contest of the event. The participants came up with different themes, animated make-ups, remarkable costumes, enlightened music and appeasing settings of the stage. The segment made the audience mesmerized. The best skit title went to CIIT while FJWU caught second position for their skit "Aurat Raj ". The third position was shared by UET-Taxila and the "Bhola" of Preston University. Kashif, Syed Nabeel and Junaid Malik, the honorable names in the field of  Theatre and TV Production, announced the results appreciating the individualperformances and the contribution of the participating teams in warming-up the ambience of the auditorium.
