RPPs scam: Raja Pervez Ashraf to be indicted on Dec 2

Accountability Court (AC) on Tuesday heard a reference against former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and fixed Dec 2 for his formal indictment in infamous Rental Power Projects (RPPs) scam.
Raja Pervez Ashraf appeared before AC judge Muhammad Bashir today wherein the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) representatives argued that the former PM was involved in Naudero-II rental power plant project and investigations were underway about his involvement in other six projects.
After hearing the arguments, the court provided a copy of NAB reference to Raja Pervez Ashraf, who is also central leader of the Pakistan People Party (PPP), and fixed December 2 for his formal charge-sheeting in the case in next hearing.
Besides Raja Pervez Ashraf, former secretary and additional secretary Water and Power Ministry, former Chairman, MD and DG of Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) are also accused in the case.
Last month, the NAB filed a supplementary reference against him in connection with his involvement in the multi-billion-rupee scandal, after which the anti-corruption court has started hearing the 263-page reference from today.
Ashraf had been under investigation for his role in granting rental power projects as a water and power minister in the cabinet of ex-PM Yousuf Raza Gilani.
In March 2012, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had declared all such projects unlawful and ordered investigations against the officials, including Ashraf.
