President institutes ‘Peace Prize for Youth’




ISLAMABAD - President Asif Ali Zardari Friday instituted the “National Peace Prize for Youth” for honouring and appreciating those talented youth of the country who show exemplary courage or manifest highest degree of talent by undertaking acts and thoughts that really make a difference in addressing the issues related to education and peace in the society.
It may be recalled the Malala Yousafzai was the first girl of the country for whom the Prime Minister of Pakistan had announced National Peace Award in order to recognise and honour her courageous stance while championing the cause of women education and pleading their rights. She, therefore, is the first recipient of the National Peace Prize for Youth for the year 2011.   The summary signed by the President on Friday enunciates that the National Peace Prize for Youth, worth Rs 500,000, would be conferred on an exceptional youth under 18 years.
 of age, whose courageous or otherwise remarkable act(s) and thought(s) have made a difference in countering problems in the field of education and in promoting peace, across the country.
It says that for this National Peace Prize each year nominations would be invited from all over the country and a committee under the Cabinet Secretary will assess the nominations to select a person on the basis of criterion to be developed. The Cabinet Division will process the Prize every year and the Prime Minister of Pakistan shall make the announcement of the winner.
