ISLAMABAD - A woman who claimed to be the former wife of Senator Azam Khan Hoti attempted suicide by setting herself on fire in front of the office of Islamabad IGP on Thursday. However, police officials foiled her attempt.
Shamim Kiyani, who claims to be step-mom of former Chief Minister of KP Ameer Haider Khan Hoti and ex-wife of Senator Azam Hoti, reached the Islamabad IGP office and requested officials to arrange her meeting with him. However, she was denied access to the IGP.
On this, the frustrated lady attempted to set herself on fire at the site. However, the policemen deputed at the gate of IGP office overpowered her before she could set herself on fire and shifted her to Kohsar police station.
Later, she was shifted to woman police station where police booked her under section 325 PPC.
“An FIR has been lodged against her following the incident,” a spokesperson of ICT police told The Nation on Thursday.
Insiders informed this scribe that the victim had been receiving life threats from unknown people and requested the IGP to provide her security. The woman claims she was denied security by top police officer of ICT police despite knowing the fact that she was receiving life threats.
Shamim’s friends allege that the ICT police highups are ignoring her pleas for help.
“The desperate lady, repeatedly requested the top ICT police to provide her with adequate security, however, her request was never fulfilled. This is why she has attempted suicide,” Sadaf Gul, one of Shamim’s close friends and relatives, told The Nation.
IGP Sikander Hayat was not available for comment.
On March 6, 2014, Shamim had reported to Kohsar police some unknown armed people stormed her house, in sector F-7/2, and warned her with dire consequences if she continued to pursue ‘dowry money case’ against Azam Khan Hoti.
The police lodged an FIR against former federal minister Azam Hoti and one of his friends Shah Nawaz under section 452 and 506 PPC.
