People pay homage to Benazir, donate blood

RAWALPINDI - The 56th birth anniversary of former premier and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) slain Chairwoman Benazir Bhutto (BB), like others parts of the country, was celebrated in somber manner here on Sunday. On the occasion, a blood donation camp was set up by Thalassaemia Treatment Centre and Medicos Aid Society (Rawalpindi Medical College) at assassination site of BB at Liaquat Bagh in which people belonged to various walks of life donated blood to pay homage their beloved leader. According to Divisional Blood Transfusion Office Dr Muhammad Farooq Khan some 78 persons (both male and female) had donated blood. He said that the blood, being donated by the people, would be transfused to personnel of security forces who were combating with militants in Malakand Division and needy patients free of cost. PPP city chapter, under the supervision of its President Malik Aamer Fida Paracha, also held Quran Khwani at BBs assassination site while collective prayer (Fateh) was offered at 6pm for the departed soul of former premier BB and other victims of December 27, 2007 incident. An award distribution ceremony was held by Peoples Workers Forum (PWF) at Rawalpindi Islamabad Press Club (RIPC). PPP Central Executive Committee (CEC) member Sultan Mehmood Qazi was the chief guest on the occasion while Faisal Raza Shah, Sheikh Mudasir Ahmed, Nusrat Kausar Gillani and Ms Qadsa were among others prominent. A large number of PPP Jiyalas (male and female) visited to BBs monument and paid rich tribute to the daughter of East and also offered Fateh for her departed soul. While talking to The Nation, PPP city President Malik Aamer Fida Paracha said that following the directions of President and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari the 56 thh birthday of BB was being celebrated with simplicity and no any major ceremony was being organized. The party and workers were still passing through a period of mourning and grief he added. He said that the death of BB was a great loss not only for Pakistan but also for the whole world. He said that she was the custodian of the rights of poor masses and embraced martyrdom while guarding their (poor) rights. PPP city President pledged that the mission of the daughter of east BB would be continued by redressing the maladies being faced by the people of Pakistan. Aamer Fida Paracha was of view that Prime Minister (PM) Syed Yusuf Raza Gillani, during a ceremony held at Convention Centre Islamabad, approved the construction of monument at BBs assassination site at Liaquat Bagh and work on this project would be started soon, he added. PPP CEC member Sultan Mehmood Qazi, while distributing awards among the Jiyalas, said that party workers were united under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari. He said that BB was a great leader and her services in national politics would be remembered forever. Former Political Secretary of PPP assassinated Chairwoman BB Naheed Khan and Senator Dr Safdar Abbasi also celebrated the 56th anniversary of former premier by holding a ceremony Saturday late night at Liaquat Bagh. Scores of Jiyals coming from some others cities, artists including renowned singer Rahim Shah and people of various walks of life attended the ceremony and paid affluent tribute to former premier BB. Naheed Khan, while addressing, said that though BB was died yet she would alive in the hearts of the masses everlastingly. She said that BB always took stand for the poor masses and did politics of service. Owing to the sacrifice of BB democracy revived in the country, she added. On the occasion, two minutes silence was observed to pay homage to PPP slain chairwoman.
