Timber mafia accused of fire incidents

ISLAMABAD (Online) - Timber mafia in connivance with corrupt officials has been reportedly behind the fire incidents being happened at the green Margalla Hills, it has been learnt reliably. Sources told this Agency here on Sunday that frequent fire incidents at the green hills are causing panic among the residents of populated sectors E-7, F-6 and F-8 but the Capital Development Authority is watching the situation silently. According to details, incidents of fire at the green Margalla Hills have become a routine matter and five incidents have so far taken place in this week, which incurred huge losses. The fire incidents not only destroy trees but also pose serious threats to lives of wild animals. People, who visit the hills frequently for exercise told this Agency that they have seen bodies of various animals killed by fire and causing bad smell in the area. Sources said that timber mafia and some corrupt officials have been behind in the fire incidents at green Margalla hills. CDA official, who did not want to be identified, told this agency that the authority officials have been behind the incidents, saying earlier trees were being cut in the night darkness and now set them on fire. Malik Auliya Khan, CDA environment official said that there are 30-35 villages located on the Margalla Mountains, while fire erupts mistakenly by the people coming for recreation here. He said that the CDA deployed 400 officials from April 15 to June 15, adding that the authority was taking solid steps to stop firing incidents.
