CDGR asked to build security wall around Liaquat Bagh

RAWALPINDI - In order to ensure foolproof security, the Rawalpindi police have asked City District Government Rawalpindi (CDGR) to construct 10 feet high concrete wall around Liaquat Bagh.Sources said that Rawalpindi police after detailed analysis of the security situation during political parties and public meeting at historic Liaquat Bagh have forwarded a letter to city district administration. It was suggested in the letter that 10 feet high boundary wall with barbed wire be constructed besides installation of walk-through gate at entrance, drinking water and washrooms facilities for police personnel and participants of public meetings in the park. When contacted, CPO Rawalpindi Azhar Hameed Khokhar confirmed that the said suggestions were under consideration regarding Liaquat Bagh and ruled out suggestion of inactivating of it on permanent basis.  It may be recalled that former prime ministers of Pakistan — Liaquat Ali Khan and Benazir Bhutto — have been assassinated in shooting and gun-and-bomb attacks during and after addressing the public in the past.
