Out of 10 only 2 MPs appear before ECP in fake degree case

Out of 10 parliamentarians summoned by the Election Commission in fake degree cases only two appeared before the special court whereas four were absent and four members sent their representatives. The hearing regarding fake/invalid degrees of 10 Senators, MNA's and MPA's was held Monday under the Chairmanship of Mr. Muhammad Afzal Khan, the Nominated Officer of Election Commission of Pakistan under the direction of Supreme Court of Pakistan. The Representative/focal Person of Higher Education Commission (HEC), Mr. Rahim Bux Channa was also present. As per details 10 members of parliament and provincial assembly were called to appear before the election commission to defend their cases. Out of which only two appeared before the special court whereas four were absent and four members sent their representatives. During the hearing of the election commission on Monday member Balochistan assembly Mr. Abdul Samad Akuhnzada MPA (PB-7) appeared in person and presented relevant documents and Court's judgments. He was informed by the Committee that the name of Madrassah from where he has got his certificate is not recognized with HEC. The Committee, therefore, advised him to provide credible defense in the matter and fixed 20th December 2010 as next and final date of hearing Molvi Haji Rozi Uddin MNA (NA-262) appeared in person, submitted the relevant documents and pleaded his case. The Committee advised him to provide suitable defense and documents and fixed 20th December 2010 as next and final date of hearing. An Advocate appeared on behalf of Mr. Yar Muhmmad Rind MPA (PB-31) and requested for adjournment on the grounds that a case of Mr. Yar Muhmmad Rind was pending in the Lahore High Court. The Committee asked him to provide written reply and relevant documents/judgments. His next date of hearing is 6th December 2010. For Mr. Ijaz Ahmed MPA (PP-209), a junior Advocate appeared and presented some court's judgments. He also requested for adjournment on the grounds that senior counsel of Mr. Ijaz Ahmed is unable to appear before the Committee due to dengue fever, therefore, the case may be adjourned. The Committee decided to ask the relevant Madrassah for clarifying the position and fixed 13th December 2010 as the final date of hearing. A representative of Mir Ahmedan Khan MNA (NA-265) appeared before the Committee and requested for adjournment due to non-availability of Mir Ahmedan Khan. The Committee adjourned the case and fixed 20th December 2010 as next date of hearing. For Molvi Obaidullah (KPK-61), his brother Mahboobullah, MNA appeared and requested for adjournment. The Committee fixed 13th December 2010 as next and final date of hearing. Khalifa Abdul Qayyum MPA (KPK-64), Malak Iqbal Ahmed Langriyal MPA (PP-226), KP Haji Shrai Azam Wazir and Mr. Wali Muhammad, Senator from Balochistan remained absent and the Committee decided to issue them final notices for 13th December 2010 failing which the cases will be closed and sent to the Hon'ble Chief Election Commissioner.
