The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday adjourned the hearing of a treason case against former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf till June 3 while one of the top counsels – Ahmed Raza Kasuri –has said that Musharraf is not leaving the country.
While giving arguments before the three-member bench of the apex court, counsel of the petitioner Maulvi Iqbal Haider requested the bench to order initiation of proceedings against Musharraf under Article 6 of the constitution.
Justice Khilji Arif asked the counsel to satisfy the court over a point whether Supreme Court can order the trial court to initiate the proceedings under Article 6.
Justice Jawwad Khawaja remarked that November 3 emergency was imposed by the Army Chief who is answerable to secretary of defense, asking whether a prove of any alleged consultation with the prime minister before imposing Nov. 3 emergency was presented or not.
Meanwhile, Kasuri said before the court that he met with ex-president Musharraf last night, adding he has no plans to leave the country. The bench ordered to include his statement in the case record.
