Musharraf\'s legal team lacks coordination

ISLAMABAD - Lack of coordination among former President Pervez Musharraf's counsels costs him dearly as some of his lawyers file applications without informing others.
The legal experts are of the opinion that due to non-coordination among the former army chief's defence team the various courts had dismissed most of his applications as they lacked important legal issues.
In the last hearing an application (17/2014) was filed in the Special Court praying that the court had no jurisdiction to hear the high treason case against Musharraf and, therefore, the case should be sent to the military court for trial under Army Act 1952.
When Farogh Naseem, who had replaced Musharraf's old legal team, was contacted to know the contents of the application, he simply expressed ignorance about the application. He said Siddique Mirza, another member of Musharraf's legal team, had filed the application and he could tell about that.
This scribe inquired from Mirza how the questions raised in his application (17/2014) were different from Dr Khalid Ranjha's petition, which the Special Court had already dismissed. Mirza said that there were some fundamental facts, which were earlier ignored by his colleagues, and now he would bring them before the court.
He said the Special Court had no jurisdiction to frame charges, though the court had framed charges against Musharraf on 31st March 2014.
Earlier, Dr Ranjha argued the case for three days and cited various judgements and laws that Musharraf case should be sent to the military court for trial under Army Act but the court rejected his petition.
Ahmed Raza Kasuri, another senior member of Musharraf's team, when asked about the application, confirmed that Mirza had filed the application. When questioned why other members of the defence team were unaware of the application, he said, "All the issues about the application are discussed in a meeting with Musharraf." However there were some exclusive issues and, therefore, the lawyer worked on it in his personal capacity and didn't share with other colleagues, he added.
