Vendors not displaying rate lists

ISLAMABAD – In gross violation of rules, shopkeepers and venders are not displaying rate lists of fruits and vegetable and charging high prices in the Fruit and Vegetable Market (Sabzi Mandi) in Federal Capital.
It seems there is no official check and as a result, brawls among sellers and buyers is a routine matter, said Mazhar Abbass, a customer who visits this market located in the I-11 sector, twice a week.
About security arrangements he informed that the District Administration has time and again instructed concerned police to ensure security arrangements by installing walk-through gates for the safety of people. However, one or two cops are deployed for a few days and they too disappear when the dust is settled.
“I have not seen even a single policeman deployed for the security although a police station has been set up at the corner of Sabzi Mandi,” Ejaz ul Haq, a resident of nearby I-10 Sector pointed out.
Jahangir Khan, a vendor said that there was no entry schedule of trucks and other vehicle to unload their goods in Sabzi Mandi. These trucks can enter at any time causing traffic problems for the people, he added. A large number of unauthorized kiosks and repairing shops have also been set up around the market.
When contacted, the District Administration and CDA officials said that they are striving hard to ensure display of rate lists and further improve security arrangements at the site.
